Similar to the quote "what you put in is what you get out of it",
functions are a way to relate an input and output.
A common way of naming a function in calculus is 'f(x) =...' The most common name is "f", but we can have other names like "g".. or even "q" if we want.
Here we see that..
f is the name of the function
what goes into the function is put inside parentheses ()
